Lego Catamaran Review
Whilst the product did (and probably would still) have a lot of play-ability and entertainment value for children of its formerly designated / targeted age-group, the product's real value has since transcended to the "collectable" category instead. The set was initially released in 1996 and was associated with the "Islander" Lego theme, which has since been discontinued in its entirety. The discontinuation of the theme is probably attributable to its association with what some may consider to be its "politically incorrect" and somewhat controversial, racial and/or minority-group undertones; and considering the aforesaid, the fact that a theme such as the relatable had even made it onto a production line at one stage, is in itself a contributing factor to its exclusive status. However, even though there have been one-off resurgences of many other formerly-discontinued themes like pirates for example, the likelihood of seeing a resurgence of any themes which are (very) indicative of a specific racial and/or minority-group, like Lego Islanders or the Lego Indians theme for that matter, is highly improbable. Albeit so, instead of being seen as controversial, the particular theme - similar to the Lego Indians theme - should essentially be recognized for its representation of fact and historicity; and whose value is inherent in the illustration of the verity that humankind had evolved from an elementary state as a primitive species with a tribal orientation, into what it is today; and that the set moreover instead represents an inclusivity of our collectively recognized past, as opposed to anything else. That in particular, and the fact that the product has been discontinued and is now (REALLY) hard to come by, makes for a great product in my opinion!
