Small and works -- what more do you need?
iPhone SE (2016) is small, light, and works well. By definition, the screen doesn't have much real estate for surfing, but it's well put together and everything just works. Small means small battery so it doesn't last more than a day, but it has everything I need (4G, good WIfi, good bluetooth, good cellular coverage so calls don't drop out). It's the diametric opposite of the Redmi Note 8 pro it replaced -- this one works with the car bluetooth, gets updates, and doesn't include much bloatware. Painless and cheap entry to the Apple world.

Original and Best (Magic Trackpad)
The magic trackpad is well integrated with OS X/Mac OS.
Trackpads are a love/hate issue, but for me, they just make life easier. They connect via bluetooth, and setup is a simple one time job. Unlike the Trackpad 2, the original magic trackpad works with versions of OS X before Sierra (and works well with earlier machines).
It uses two standard AA batteries, so using rechargeables is both cheap and easy. Battery life seems pretty good. You can switch it off by pressing the power button for about 10 seconds (until the light goes out again), but it seems to go to sleep if the machine is in sleep mode or shutdown.
The magic trackpad has a definite mechanical click, but you can set it up in OS X to "click on touch" if you prefer. The first thing I do with an iMac is to bin the magic mouse (Apple have never made a good mouse, ever) and associate a magic trackpad with it. Done. Every home should have one.
