Okay, not as good as the first.
The sequel to one of my favorite novels! However 150 pages in, and I don't have a desire to pick it up and continue. Pattyn has grown to be more of a flat and boring character, and I've suddenly become uninterested in what's going on in her life. It seems like the two stories are hardly written by the same author. I continue to be annoyed by the writing style, which was acceptable in the first book because it flowed. Whereas in this book I find myself having to read a page more than once at some points. The author introduces Pattyn's sister, Jackie, and I find myself more interested in her story than whatever is going on with Pattyn. It follows the style and theme of the first book better than Pattyn's storyline. I found myself starting to care about Jackie and wanting to read more. When I came to the Pattyn chapters I kind of wanted to skip over them. I will continue on...... I completed it anyways. The last third of the book was emotional and beautiful. Glad I completed it. 3/5 stars for the rough start.

    Compelling Coming Of Age Story
This starts off as a beautiful and compelling coming of age story about a girl named Pattyn, who is growing up in a strictly Mormon household- but doesn't quite abide by the expected behaviors for LDS children. As a blossoming teenager she starts to question things about sex and relationships, and what a woman's role in a relationship- and in life, is supposed to be. This was a very quick read for me, as I was immediately drawn in. The story was compelling and beautiful. I have always been a sucker for a good coming of age story- and this did not disappoint. The ending of it had me in tears and the ENDING ENDING had me on the edge of my seat wondering what's going to happen next. I definitely didn't expect this book to deliver the way it did. Definitely would read again. I will comment that this book doesn't make me feel like this is what it's like in the regular Mormon household, as some people have said it depicts LDS in a poor manner. I understand that this book is a work of fiction and this portrayal is not accurate for the average Mormon household. The one thing I disliked about this book was he writing style. It's written as if it's poetry- but it's not. The book could have easily been condensed to 200 pages instead of the 500+ pages it's at. To me this is a waste of paper, and an unnecessary cramp in my hand. I give this book 5/5 stars. This rating and review is based solely on my immediate feelings upon completion of the book, and is in no way meant to be in comparison with other books I have read.

    Better Than Twilight
Compelling. Fast paced, and great characters. Reminded me of Twilight, but better.
