A chill up my spine! Oz the Great and Powerful!!
Personal background of the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz, but younger, before and just after he landed in Oz. There are jealous adversaries that he has tried to con, who now seek revenge. A lack of real wizardly power forces him to 'innovate' with help from new aquaintences. Can his humanity and conscience find the integrity within? Will it grant him the power to save Oz from destruction? A charming, even heartwarming, journey thru beautiful lands.of wonderous fear and adventure.

Those who know Sci-Fi will tend to admit THIS was the real begninning of the genre
This was THE Sci-Fi film that made the genre awe inspiring and respectable. Here lived the mighty and "all but divine" race of the Krell which vanished without a trace thousands of centuries ago from the face of the planet. Yet beneath the planetary surface, their world remains, repairing and maintaining itself since their demise. An earth space ship arrives to rescue the surviviors of the earlier ship which crashed here more than 20 years ago, to find only one man, and his beautiful daughter, alive. The crew was wiped out one by one in horror by "some mysterious force", which never once attacked the surviving professor, and he has no wish to be rescued. I remember sitting open mouthed in awe those many years ago when I saw this and it sitll sends chills up my spine.

A good old monster movie with a very clever twist and realistic characters. Good Sci-Fi effects!
The premise unfolds over time. The characters are entirely realistic. The acting is excellent, even in the gritty parts. I cringed at the blunt desperation of Jason Sudeikis, the 'just trying to survive' Dan Stevens, Austin Stowell, and Tim Blake Nelson, and I was misty eyed for the heroine. Anne Hathaway's charm shines thru even as a down and out loser, at the start.
It was deeper than the Godzilla stuff, fun with anime spirit, and cool effects. This was a clever film! I think young viewers will like it, and the great ending. Elders will like it for the nostalgia of the good old giant monster days.
