Ibanez JEMJR Jem Junior Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar Yellow 33751
Dec 21, 2020
A very convincing orignal JEM replacement, and heck of a guitar for the money.
For 20 years I used to own the original DY JEM, and got to know it inside and out. These budget JNR models are so near, the differences are mostly minor (no pink in lions claw, no disappearing pyramid inlay). Important point is that out of the box, the guitar needs setting up before you can really appreciate it (theres instructions in the box). In some ways thats no bad thing, everyone has a different preference for action, fret finish and pickup placement. Yes: you need to set pickup heights. Seems some youtube newbies are comparing these to original Jems without setting the pickups then complaing marginal sound differences. The Ibanez quantums sound just as good and versatile as the original paf-pro, the trem is better (original had nylon bushes that wore down), neck feels better (once action set to my preference). Only other thing is the fine tuners on the Edge trem feel a bit rough when turning - I added a little graphite powder and that resolved it. Whilst I regret selling my original Jem a few years back, this is a very convincing replacement, and a heck of a guitar for the money, and no way should the originals be selling for what they do, they aren't that great.

Yummy bread & attractively finished in stainless steel
Despite only having active dried yeast (not the recommended easy bake yeast), my first loaf, 100% wholemeal bread, came out very well. The machine is easy to use, and has a useful extended bake facility if your experimenting with bread mixes that require a little extra baking - it is a shame though that you can't programme your own custom bake times. There have been no faults with my unit yet, though I know that with the almost identical BM200 (difference being only in that this has stainless steel finish), the spring clips for the bread tin can become pushed in slightly so they no longer grip pan tightly - it is dead easy to simply pull them out a bit, so they grip the tin again. In all an excellent well-built machine, generally more reliable than Panasonic, where their kneader drives have been made of a soft material which deforms, so it wobbles too much on the shaft (eventually failing to turn at all!). They might have improved this on newer models, but I'm happy with my BM258.

Microsoft X08-70390 Trackball Explorer 1.0 PS2/ USB Compatible Computer Mouse

Had mine for almost 20 years, daily use, still working. Who needs touch input on a desktop ;)
Probably the best example of a well-designed consumer PC peripheral - erganonically as others point out these work out so much better than using a mouse and feels better than other trackballs, especially on multiple monitor setups for programming, data analysis / modelling. The buttons are in the right place - left right and scroll under thumb, index and middle for the ball, and 4th and 5th fingers on back and forward make for effortless browsing in documents as well as on web browsers. That mine is almost 20 years old and still going strong with almost daily use is a testamony to the build quality (probably a reason Microsoft stopped making them, people wouldn't buy replacement peripherals!). Used prices are so much higher than I paid for mine new, but understandable, I'd be lost without mine, so much so I just had to buy another 'just in case'.
