Great little transciever
This is my 3rd VV898. I bought my first one seven years ago as a manpack self contained radio. It has worked great. The second one was pressed into service as an APRS gateway. Its been running 24/7 now for two years. The 3rd is a recent purchase to provide an APRS DIGI for the special events we support here in the mountains. They are all working great. The cheapest dual band mobile radio on the market. They just work, nothing fancy. They program a little different than some of the Japanese radios. I programmed the first 2 by hand and wrote myself a cheat sheet that I keep with the radios. This last one was programmed in chirp. No problems. Transferred al settings to all 3 radios to make channel selection easier. These things have 2 separate memory banks, 199 in each. One is for A band and the other is for B band. This gives you some options in band management.
Overall a very good radio. I've tried a bunch of other Chinese transcievers. They all went back; QYT, B Tech, dual band, quad band you name it, they were all sub par. I'll stick with these when i need a small unit. Larry, KM4TDC.
