Unusual Pen
1 of 1 found this helpful An interesting pen to be sure. It seems really well made. It is finished in flawless black lacquer over what must be brass with beautifully chrome plated section threads. The piston converter looks like something from Mont Blanc, except better and it works perfectly.
The pen is short and very heavy, strongly flared towards the section, which reverses the flare towards the nib. Grip is awkward and uncertain, with the center of gravity shifting a lot as it moves in use. The cap posts perfectly, with a beautifully engineered nylon collar inside that smoothly, (wonderfully really) slips over the barrel, seating firmly in place. The pen is too short in my fairly large hand, but posting hardly helps, as it shifts the weight upwards and gives the very wide assembly a baton like feeling.
The nib is between fine and extra fine and provides a reasonably smooth writing experience. Part of the fun of Chinese pens comes in adjusting the nib to your taste, and with a little .25 micron lapping film it is easy to make this pen write quite smoothly. My own experience is that certain Chinese nibs can be improved to challenge the very best from Europe, while others mysteriously cannot. This nib is in the middle somewhere. It is also easily removed and can be replaced.
In summary, this is a pen that I want to love. It is very well made and strikingly original in concept. I am sure that it would work very well for some people, but for me it represents a fun curiosity that is something to talk about but only infrequently use for writing.

Great and historical Radio Shack kit
This kits was designed by Forest Mims for Radio Shack in the 1970s. Mr. Mims is a great force in science education and his hand drawn engineering books have been a mainstay for basic electronics education for many years. The kit is durable and beautifully designed in a way that is both very useful today and evocative of another, simpler time.

Very good product!
0 of 1 found this helpful Dark black, smooth flowing ink. Some pens actually seem to write a little more smoothly with this than with Montblanc black. Nice bottle, typical careful and high quality Japanese product.
