Nikon D3100 is a screaming bargain right now......
The D3100 is an excellent camera, like the D3000 on steroids...or at least working out and taking lot of vitamins and supplements. It is very much like the D3000 with almost twice the resolution. Both cameras shoot beautiful pictures, and anyone would be happy with either camera. Now would be an excellent time to buy a factory refurb or used D3100 with the 18-55 kit lens. I have seen them selling for less than $400.00. That, my friends, is a screaming bargain.. I use a camera to take pictures, and not video, so video has not been used by me on either camera, but pictures are what this camera does best. And to be totally honest, I think the only thing that really holds the D3100 back is the lens. This camera deserves the best lens you can afford. The kit sen(s) are fine to get up and running, and to determine what focal lengths you will need in the future. I have heard several pro photographers say you really only need to carry two lens in your camera bag, and if that is the case, both lens will probably cost more than the camera body..I would think you could use one zoom lens, maybe a 18-135mm and one telephoto lens, probably a 300mm one. But that is me. Your lens might need to be different. Having shot both cameras, I have to admit that the 3200 is a slightly better camera than the 3100, but only by a small margin. Both are remarkable cameras for the casual photographer, and I would not hesitate to buy either. I was torn between going Canon or Nikon, but in the end chose Nikon because that is what is use to shoot in 35mm film cameras, and I have a friend who is a true pro, and he shoot Nikon. I like the look and feel of the Nikon much better than the competition. I like the way the buttons and menus are arranged on the Nikon, they seem more intuitive to me...and the competition just feel cheap and out of balance in my hands. I must admit that I have seen absolutely beautiful shots from both brands and don't think you would be totally unhappy with either. I just think Nikon is the better camera for me.

    BUCK KNIVES 10180 Selkirk 0863BRS-B

    Hgh Quality Instrument
I've only recently begun collecting knives and recently bought the Selkirk to add to my collection. I am really imprressed with its quality. I know a lot of people are upset because this particular Buck is made in China, but I have to tell you, the knife is of extremely high quality. The fit and finish is superb. I also own several other Buck fixed blade knives and if it were not for the CHINA stamp, I woulld not know where any of the knives were made. They are all extramely well made. First, I love the design of the knife. It fits in the hand very well and has a good heft to it. It does feel heavier than it looks. The Micarta scales are gorgeous and are securely attached with three hex head fasteners. The finger guard and bolster appear to have all been cast together, and a part of the tang of the blade. The tang also appears to be full, and structurally integrated with the bolster and finger guard. I know this is probably a skeletonized tang, and may not be truly a full tang, but I am sure it will never present a problem. The blade has jimping along the top inch and is sharply cut into the metal. I think I read the blade is .145" in thickness, and was somewhat concerned that it might be on the thin side, but no worries. I think there is plenty of material and that the knife will hold up very well. The blade is flat ground, and was very sharp out of the box. I think the 420HC that Buck uses is a vey nice, very serviceable blade steel but wonder if the Chinese version is s good as the Bos treated? The sheath is very well done, and any complaints would be nit-picking. The whistle and ferro rod are a nice added touch, and would come in handy in the right situation. All in all, I am very happy with this knife. Everything is a compromise when producing a product like this, but I feel that Buck made all the right choices and has produced a fantastic product for an outstanding price. If you are considering this item, go ahead and buy it. You will not be disappointed.

    Beltronics Vector 995
After reading reviews for over a week and actually buying two Beltronics 995 units and an Escort Passpost 8500 X50, I must decide which unit to keep. I owned an Escort Passport in the distant past, and don't know what ever happened to it, but the technology has changed so much. The Beltronics seems to be a nicer unit. It just feels more solid, and is slightly smaller than the Escort. As some people know, the two companies recently combined, and both of these units is built on the same framework.. I think the Escort falses more than the Beltronics, but I think they are very similar in performance. The main reason I think I will stay with the Beltronics is the Ku Band. Passport doesn't have it, and it is not used in the USA yet, but if you travel internationally, you might have use for it. I haven't had these units side by side in my car long enough to tell which is the better unit, so I am premature in writing this review, but looks like Escort is coming out witha new unit named the Redline, and it appears it will be the one to beat in the future, but, for now if you are looking for a sub $200.00 unit on the used market, I would choose the Beltronics Vector 995, witha close second going to the Escort Passport 8500 X50. As I get more to report, I'll do so, but I think both units are great for the used pricepoint you can find on eBay. Both doa great job on x, K, Ka, Laser, and for the Bel Ku. I'll keep you all up to date as I have more to report.
