Great Story and Wonderful Illustrations
I bought this book and read it to see if I'd want to use it for a homeschool co-op class I'll be teaching where the kids will make a simple kit dollhouse in the class over the semester, and for a portion of the class, we'll also read this book and have tea parties while we read. Fun! This book will be perfect for this class I have designed, and I did enjoy the story and the characters. The best part about it are the wonderful illustrations and the idea of the story, where the dolls are really alive, but the people whom they live with don't know it. The writing and the characters could have a bit more depth, but overall, they are well-written and interesting. And the plot that the other reviews have talked about and the story interest of Annabelle longing for more freedom and a more carefree life, but yet foiled by the overly-carefree new friend she makes are good and held my interest. I do believe that middle grade school kids will enjoy this, and I do think that boys would enjoy the story as well. I liked the plot idea of searching for her aunt who was lost years ago, and the diary that Annabelle finds that the aunt had kept. I'd recommend this book and would have given it the full 5 stars except I believe the writing could have been a bit better and more well-drawn. But overall, a wonderful, inventive story that will hold your interest and keep you wanting to read the sequels, which I know I will do at some point.

One of my all-time favorite novels--stands way above other novels!!
Some Wildflower in My Heart is just about my favorite novel to date. And that is saying a lot, as I belong to two book clubs and have read some wonderful books in my life. I believe it is the craft of her writing, and the beautiful descriptions, both of scene and character, for which I most admire Ms. Turner. She is simply a beautiful, eloquent and evocative writer, and she is one of my favorites. This book is a tribute to the human spirit in the best way and exemplifies that Ms. Turner has caught perfectly how one in this life can truly function as "Jesus with skin on" for fellow human beings. The main characters of Margaret and Birdy in this novel are truly memorable and so very touching. Birdy especially is a character that one can truly call a hero, in such an ordinary way. And Margaret's character evolves in such a wonderful and believable manner. The whole process is very touching and so well-written. I have read this book several times and will certainly read it again before too long. Of the 5 or 6 books that I have read by this author, this one is my very favorite. I only wish that I could write like this author! I truly admire her skill and her love of the writing craft that shine through so brightly in her writing. Please read all the way to the end of this book to discover the true magic of it. I promise that you won't be disappointed and that you too will call this book one of your favorites!
