Hard but really good read
Stuff you can find on the internet is about one tenth of the book. I'm not yet finished reading it, but boy is it worth it to read some part twice. I don't think it's for beginners, but you don't have to be a hardware cossack either. If you like breaking rock hard problems into finest powder you can count on this book being your sledgehammer.

It's polite, it's right, and it's sneezy, deezy, mc deluxe.
No matter what people say, I think this book is not only Essential COM but also essential for Windows programming. If you want to do the walk from a good programmer to master this is one of the middle steps you should take. Even if you decide not to do COM afterwards, this gives you a good grasp on compatibility at binary level.
