Szombathely misplaced
The title is somewhat misleading. The text is a good summary of the 1946-56 Communist era in Hungary and the Uprising. The city of Szombathely - established in 46 CE as Savaria by Claudius - is incidental to the story. If you want to learn about the city, forget it. If you want a readable account of the era, by it. I found one subsantive historical error: Imre Nagy was not invited to Transylvania, he had been arrested while under "safe conduct" and was taken there as a prisoner.
