Extremely detailed history of a great golf club
This book was privately published and quite a rare find. If you are a) a member of Hindhead, b) know and love the course and surrounding area or c) are just fascinated by detailed local history from turn of the last century this book pays dividends.
It is extremely detailed and concocted from local history as well as an in-depth study of the golf club's minutes . . . month by month and year by year. Fascinating to see how Arthur Conan Doyle and other characters set up what is now a fabulous golf course.
Could do with more pictures - there is a lot of text - and I am still baffled how the course went from exposed and barren heathland to pine tree-lined in just a few decades.
