The Green Pet Shop Cool Pet Pad (Large)
    May 13, 2020
    Needed comfort for older Husky
Our old husky has Lar Par (breathing restriction) and needs to stay cool to reduce panting. This pad is thin, so I put it on top of a cushioned mat, but does the job well enough. After a few hours, I try to switch it out with another cool pad, because it gets warm from his body heat. It does seem to "recharge" itself after a half hour, so is ready to cool down the dog when he gets up again. It's a good size for the dog, and is well-built. I'm satisfied with the product.
Shiatsu Kneading Rolling Vibration Heating Foot Calf Ankle Leg Massager FT11

    Pampered Feet get a workout
This massager was half the price of the one I tried out at a local store, so thought I'd give it a try. It is attractive and gives out a little chime when turning on/off and when massage is complete. It is also fairly heavy and awkward to move; a handle or strap would have been nice. The best way to move it is to insert your arm into one of the holes (make sure machine is OFF) and lift, using your other hand to support the outside. Of course one of the warnings is to not place your arms in the foot holes...and like I'm going to unplug it to move it in front of the chair! So much for safety issues, although it is nice that any function or the machine itself can be turned off at any time, like if you have to get up to do something. The rims around the foot inserts are hard plastic, so unless you are fairly upright while using it, the back rim presses into the back of your leg. Now for the functions: Vibration mode has low, medium, and high. Heat is mild. Intensity modes affect the vibration and air pressure when in the auto modes. Now the Auto Modes themselves: they are described as "health", "revive" and "sleep." Each mode uses all the functions: vibration, air pressure, kneading and rolling, but you can turn off heat and vibration if desired. I found each auto mode to be of increasing air and roller pressure. You can slightly adjust the pressure using the intensity buttons, but I don't think I'd want to use any intensity other than low, and since sleep, mode three, is more intense than the others, it doesn't really relax you. Your feet get a good workout, rough enough in some parts you'll want to raise your toes when you come to recognize some of the rougher toe-rolling or kneading patterns. My biggest disappointment was that I could not use the air bag pressure by itself--now that would have been a nice foot massage. I also thought the foot space was a bit confining. I wear a size 7 shoe and there is little wiggle room when I put my feet inside, but when in the auto mode functions, I did not feel like it was too small. Oh, be sure to wear thick socks for your treatments. All in all it is worth the price, gives a good workout/massage and helps warm my feet before bed. I have been using the massager nearly every day after work.

    My dog says thank-you.
I bought "How to Say it to Your Dog" because it was a problem-solving book that uses postive-reinforcement methods. My dog came to me with many problems, and although I've read dog training books and taken obedience classes, I was surprised to learn several new things to try. You can go directly to your particular problem or just enjoy reading each dog/owner interaction "story." The author, Janie Adams, gives concrete ideas to use with a puppy or young dog, but she also gives tips for those of us who have adult dogs, knowing we have to work with the dog we have. The positive tone of the book made me want to try harder to understand this beautiful but frustrating animal. Besides being an excellent basic training book, Adams also discusses a ton of bad-dog behaviors, explains the reward the dog is getting by doing it, and tells how to turn it around to help the dog get rewarded by acting "civilized."
