EKEN M001, Not an Ipad, but great value
If you are looking for a cheap Ipad this is not going to fit the bill. If you are looking for an eReader or basic internet access on a decent size screen you will be delighted.
For the price this offers a lot of functions. The build is quite robust and has just enough connectivity.
Using the Android O/S the first task is to upgrade to one of the faster ones available on the Android forums. It will make a difference to the experience and speed. This task is relatively easy. Simply download and copy onto a SD card then insert into the device and switch it on. BEWARE: it may overwrite all your existing software/files, so should be done before you start downloading or storing stuff.
Once you have a quicker O/S you'll find the device more responsive. It is able to perform all the functions of a mobile phone, plus many of a PC - word processing, spreadsheets, bookreader, camera (not great), games, book reader, internet (WI-FI only), Music player, Videos (not recommended).
The donwside (there has to be one for the price) is the speed. It does seem rather unresponsive and slow at times. This is down to the hardware and cannot be easily solved. By upgrading the O/S you can improve this, but it is a limitation.
The screen is good. The touch screen is not the same as an Ipad, so does need a plastic pen tip (like NDS) and only has single touch.
For the price I believe it offers excellent value, parcticularly for children or if you do not need anything beyond basic internet and ebook reader. The Android market place offers plenty of content for most basic needs and all for pennies.
