Yuri Monogatari 4 Us Very Good
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this an 8. Almost all the stories are good, and the artwork is excellent, with a diversity of styles. This is a manga or graphic fiction book devoted to lesbian issues. The contents are for mature readers, not so much for the small amount of nudity but because the subject matter is often very emotional and sometimes harsh. "Cog" by Althea Keaton is an especially challenging depiction of abuse and prejudice in a near-future setting. "Happiness" by Kristina K. is probably the best story in the anthology. It seems better everytime I read it, and it always makes me cry; it is the closest to a perfect combination of drawing, characterization, themes, and storytelling as I have seen in a manga short story. It depicts a lonely woman, her mysterious, companion, and the possibilty that they have found love. As deeply moving as it is, it really is not to be missed by lovers of manga. There are humorous stories, too, and I especially liked "Ichigo-Hime" by Akiko Morishima and "More Rica 'tte Kanji!?" byRica Takashima. The first tells of an artist and her best friend and some of the craziness that can happen before true love blossoms. The other tells of a young woman developing self-respect. The other stories are good, too, and I don't want anyone thinking I'm slighting them. It is just that I am very tired, now, and I've said enough, I hope, to give you the idea that I like this book very much.

One of Reaper's Best Figures
Sophie the Succubus has been Reaper's mascot for a couple of decades, and some excellent sculptors have tried their hands at creating her figures for special occasions, especially for the Christmas season. This one is one of the figures out of the multitude Reaper has produced for hobbyists and is a figure painter's delight. It looks great even unpainted, but it takes paint well. It is graceful, well balanced, and conveys the impish humor that characterizes Sophie. I recommend this figure for advanced figure painters because of the complexities of its design and its 72mm size, which seems to me to ask for greater care in shading of its surfaces than a more common size 28mm would normally require. Among the world of fine-art paintable figures, this one is a standout for the sheer beauty and enticing grace. It is among the best I have ever seen.
