Best Mid-range Trail Cam
4 of 4 found this helpful I own a dozen different trail cameras including various Brownings, Bushnells and Stealthcams. This is my favorite of the whole bunch. First, the video is unsurpassed by any $200 trail camera out there. It triggers very fast for video and the sound is excellent. Second, the latch mechanism was improved over the original Strike Force case design. It doesn't pop open. Third, the metal plate on the back was a brilliant idea and much needed improvement on the case. I use python locks to protect my investment, but the weak link is the two small plastic tabs in the rear of the case that the cable slides through. Without a security box, this metal bracket is the next best option. Lastly, for overall trail camera use, great pictures, durability, ease of set-up, case design and so on, I prefer the Browning cameras over all others and this model has those few extra perks that set it apart. decent trail camera
I have a dozen other trail cameras besides this Stealth Cam G30, so I have a pretty good idea of what I want in a game camera. On the plus side, I like the case design. It is fairly compact ant the latches are simple and sturdy. The batteries last forever. I wish it had a camo exterior like the Stealth Cam G42NG. The plain gray color sticks out like a sore thumb in most locations. The pictures are just so-so. Daylight pictures don't have very good color saturation and night pictures don't have very good definition. Animals close up will be washed out. I do like the spacing of multishot images. I generally use the first pre-programed setting which takes 3 shots. These are quick enough that a deer walking through the frame will normally have 3 pictures taken of it. Some of my other cameras will get one picture and the deer is gone by the next shot. The PIR sensor seems to be very good on these Stealth Cams. It will pick up small critters better than many of my other cameras. I even had it in my back yard and it was triggering on cars passing by on a road over 90 yards away.
Overall, it is just a good trail camera, not great. It has some good features but it lacks most in picture quality.
