Had heard of this film for years and McLaglen's portrayl, but never seen fully..it is everything I heard it to be and an outstanding Hollywood film of the 30s..no computer graphics, etc..just a great story, well acted, and produced.

When WW2 ended, the US ended rationing within a year. Not so, the UK..wartime rationing lasted til 1954! The more you understand this, and how really strict it was compared to the US, the more you will appreciate "A Private Function." As with many Britcoms, it begins slowly, and has its own sense of understated humor, but it's a gem.
DVD arrived earlier than promised; good quality.
