GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adaptor
I purchased this product as I had read of many failures from less expensive mirror products from China. The failures appeared to occur due to the number or pins in the connector, or lack of a small resistor.
The positive of the product is that it does work with my Hero 3+. The external mic is clear and audible on play back.
The negatives are that what should be an inexpensive accessory costs about $20.00 USD, and the the connecting cord is VERY short, limiting what you can do with this connector. It could also break more easily due to the extremely short length because it may cause you to bend the cord quite tight to attach it (somehow) to the Go Pro or other mount. Go Pro changed the adapter from the previous round plug type to the current 3.5mm set up, leading me to think they did this for proprietary (IE greedy) reasons. With the previous version you could often plug a small microphone directly to the GoPro. With the new connector you have to spring for more cash to add a 3.5mm mic adapter.

Sound Olympus ME51S stereo microphone
1 of 1 found this helpful I purchased the Olympus ME51S stereo microphone to go with my GoPro Silver Hero 3+. I use the GoPro waterproof case fitted with a rubber grommet over a hole I drilled to make the case water resistant as possible when inserting the GoPro brand microphone adapter cable. I use the GoPro mounted in my sit on top kayak. I would rate the sound quality of the Olympus microphone as fair at best. A bit lower in volume than the GoPro without the waterproof case. Still, for splashes or light rain, the microphone seems to work okay. For better sound quality I would purchase a different microphone.
