My review of Essence of Decision
For someone born in 1975, I had no idea what the Cuban Missile Crisis was about. I think Allison and Zelikow do a masterful job at explaining the crisis in terms of three particular models-- Rational Actor, Organizational Behavior, and Governmental Politics. Although the first chapter is somewhat convoluted the subsequent chapters make this book a definitive page turner. The only critique I have of the book, other than the first chapter, is that Allison and Zelikow did not delve deep enough into the inner turmoil and decision making processes that the Russians and Krushchev undertook.
