Charlie the Tramp by Russell Hoban (2016, Hardcover)
Jun 26, 2019
Charming
This is a very cute, timeless story for children. Russell Hoban was a master with words (I read once that he got his ideas from listening to his children talk!), and the tale of the little beaver who didn't think he wanted to be a beaver is quite appealing. Lillian Hoban (who went on to write the ARTHUR series) is one of my favorite illustrators.

An excellent adventure/historical fiction book for your favorite child
One of my all-time favorite children's books, THE DOOR IN THE WALL received the Newbery Award for its author, Marguerite DeAngeli (1889-1987), an excellent illustrator who started writing her own books in the 1930s. Set in medieval times, THE DOOR IN THE WALL follows the adventures of ten-year-old Robin, who is destined for knighthood (following in the footsteps of his father) but becomes severely disabled due to illness. Cared for and taught by good Brother Luke, Robin regains some hope for his future as he learns to read, write, swim, sing, and do many other things that serve as "doors in the wall" for him. The book is lively enough to hold the interest of the reader, and it also has heart! I purchased this copy for an eleven-year-old granddaughter who has just discovered the joy of reading.
Subversive Christ, Culture, and the Shocking Dorothy L. Sayers 9781506462752

Well....
I'm a great Dorothy L. Sayers fan, and thought I would enjoy this book. The author made some good points on an very important aspect of Dorothy Sayers' writing. Unhappily, the author's point of view came across as more important than anything else. I came away with the impression that I learned more about the author than the subject.
