not nearly as good as Expert Mouse it's trying to replace
The new trackball from Kensington trying to replace the Expert Mouse is not nearly what one would expect. Visually it is beautiful but ergonomic of the slimblade is non existing :(.
Pro:
- the new holder for the ball is better then Expert Mouse, you won't risk losing the ruby ball bearings that happens on Expert and it's easy to be cleaned
- the design with a hole on the bottom ease the cleaning of the device and stop dirt collection
- it is aesthetically more beautiful then Expert Mouse
Con:
- no hand rest, while it is low profile you still need some hand rest, you can avoid this problem by using some silicone head rest designed for mice but one should come with the trackball .. as is it is not very comfortable to use at all
- buttons, the technically challenged designer that only designed this for visual side and ignored the usability of the device completely created beautiful buttons that are unpressable :(. In normal use your fingers lay on the lower part of the left and right buttons where they are unpressable so for every click you need to move your hand in order to get your finger in position to press the button in upper portion where it is pressable... very uncomfortable and anti ergonomic
- scrolling, while detecting the rotation of the ball around Z axis and using that as scroll is a nice feature to have it is not nearly useful as the ring on Expert Mouse. Why the technically challenged designer removed the ring is beyond me. The scrolling using ball is slow and lack precision, scrolling without moving a mouse is impossible.. why not have this ball scroll + a ring .. ring is simple, fast, ergonomic, precise
The Expert Mouse you can use with one single finger - everything, move pointer, click, scroll ... it is very ergonomic device used by many with hand issues (trigger finger, karpal tunnel an other RSI problems), the SlimBlade is completely unusable if your hands are not healthy, after few hours of use a strong pain develops in hand using it.

as expected, nothing special, gets the job done
2 out of 3 ordered work. the "locking" mechanism is too stiff and does not lock properly always but it's usually not a big deal. I'm passing 1080p trough it so can't say if they support the faster transport but I'm satisfied. They don't allow interference in/out so.. they get the job done
