Great film camera for photo student
The Sears TLS is a good reliable camera using the common "Pentax screw" (M42) lens mount. With shutter speeds up to 1/1000 sec it covers the full range for SLRs of the era (late 60s, early 70s). Unlike Pentax cameras of the time (I have several) the TLS has a metal shutter curtain which does not get holes or fail the way a cloth curtain does. Every example of this camera that I own functions as it should. It's rare to have a shutter failure with this one. The built in light meter however is different. Often they are not working due to battery damage (leaks), or operate slowly. In one case the lever doesn't stop down the lens properly thus resulting in an incorrect exposure. For most student use though, just following the Sunny 16 rule will suffice. Note that the light meter needs a 1.35v battery. Using a 1.5 alkaline will give incorrect exposure readings. Adapters are available to lower the voltage of ordinary batteries, but expensive. Air zinc batteries are available in the correct voltage. The original Auto Sears f1.7 and f1.8 lenses are excellent but the f1.4 is outstanding! A great lens if you can get it. The viewfinder has tooling of the era which means that it has a micro-prism focusing screen that shimmers until focused sharply. Despite calling the TLS a great student camera, these are rugged cameras that can provide a lifetime of service. I'm keeping mine! :)

Even with a stale expiration date works perfectly!
1 of 1 found this helpful Genuine HP product works just fine, even though the expiration date is five years ago. Don't be afraid to buy expired product in its original packaging. Great way to save $$$.
