If they fit in your ears, they're gold.
1 of 1 found this helpful So, the ATH-E40s. I've owned 2 pairs of them over the course of a few years.
Accessories:
They come with a very respectable amount of accessories which includes 4 sets of ear tips, a quite nice case, a 1/4inch adapter and a 1.6m cable. The cable is a bit long and heavy so I wouldn't recommend it for exercise but these aren't exactly exercise iems. Otherwise it's perfectly acceptable and has those memory hooks on the end.
Comfort:
This is the biggest problem with these. They're big. Big and oddly shaped. Due to the nature of the dual phase push-pull driver, the housing is circular and just weird with a nozzle extending at a weird angle. If you have big ears, these might not be a problem, but if you can, try them on before buying.
Sound:
Well. They sound great. Bass is surprisingly tight but not at all overwhelming. These are not bass iems. Mids are a bit recessed and highs are clear giving these a bit of sparkle. What these sound like is basically if you took the m50s and the m40s and combined their sound, made the bass a bit tighter, and put it in an iem. They're overall pretty accurate but it's not impossible to have fun with them. The soundstage is surprisingly wide. I've had to look behind at some points because of an unexpected cymbal hit. The imaging is pretty decent too.
Overall, if they fit in your ears, they're pretty great.
Note: The eartips in the images are not stock. They are dekoni bulletz
