So-so Repro
4 of 4 found this helpful This is a reproduction bobbin case for a Singer 221 or 301 manufactured by TOWA. I purchased it for a 301 that did not have a bobbin case. I compared it to an original Singer bobbin case from a 221 (stamped Simanco--Singer Manufacturing Co.). The TOWA bobbin case worked fine in the machine (there were no problems with the stitch), but was noticeably noisier than the Singer bobbin case and was a very tight fit. When I tried to remove the bobbin case to change the bobbin, I had to wiggle it for about 15 seconds to get it out. I discovered it helps to pull on the case itself when removing it, not just the latch, so now I no longer feel I am going to break the latch off when I change the bobbin, but it is still not easy to remove. As far as value goes, this case cost about half of what an original Singer bobbin case for the 221/301 costs (Singer 221s are popular machines so demand is high and the cost of parts is rather inflated), and it does work, but it has problems. I am keeping it as a spare, mostly because I don't want to hassle with a return. I lucked out and found an original Singer bobbin case in a lot of old sewing machine parts--I bought it and am using that one in my machine because it is quieter and fits better than the TOWA reproduction.
