Excellent watch! Great value!
Sugess Moonphase Me hanical Chronograph
This spectacular watch has its roots in the Swiss alpine watch making district of the Jura where the Venus Watch Company made the original design for this excellent chronograph.
In the early 1950s, Venus came up with a simpler, cheaper to make, chronograph movement, the ancestor to the well known Valjoux 7750 chronograph.
As the chronograph movement design, tooling etc were no longer required, Venus offered them for sale and they were acquired by the watch company that is today known as Seagull. As at the date of writing this review, 20 July, 2024, Seagull manufacturers about 25% of the world’s mechanical watch movements.
Sugess add refinements of their own, such as the swan neck micro-regulator. And Sugess package their watches with care and additional goodies. Sugess give excellent service and customer care.
In terms of value for money Sugess mechanical watches are hard to beat!
I have bought a number of Sugess watches for my family, friends and myself. We’re delighted with them. They are beautifully made. Elegantly designed. Keep chronometer quality time. And their prices are unbeatable.

A Horseman Riding By
This is a BBC TV Drama series based on Book 1 of "A Horseman Riding By" novel by Delderfield. BBC originally broadcast this series in the late 1970s and I remembered it from my youth. I rate it average because the BBC issued DVD is from a slightly scratchy source and the acting is stilted and to my mind not very realistic. However, the old house which is the principal setting is beautiful as is the countryside. The film is about the life of a young officer invalided out of the Boer War who buys and renovates a Devonshire Manor and its farms. The film follows the life and times of the characters who live on and around the estate from the beginning of the Edwardian period through the First World War. The film condences and abridges much of the book. If you like vintage British period piece TV drama series this could be for you. I didn't watch TV as a kid so seeing something on the box was a treat, perhaps that's why I remembered this one so nostalgically, I re-read the books from time to time and thorougly enjoy them. I hoped the film which I hadn't seen since it was first released on TV 30 years ago would live upto the book and to my memories. It didn't.
If you like this kind of TV drama there is another one I do recommend: "A Town Like Alice" done by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the BBC (I think)

The German War - the 2nd World War through German eyes
Oxford Professor of History, Nicholas Stargardt's "The German War" is a masterful, highly readable account of the 2nd World War through German eyes.
Nicholas Stargardt uses primary source material from diaries, letters and official archives to document and illustrate the way Germans saw the war and the extent to which ordinary Germans at home and in the armed forces were aware of the actions and atrocities done by their government.
The author's style is highly readable - almost like a thriller.
This is a remarkable book. A "must read" book for anyone interested in the 2nd World War or the moral dilemmas of war.
If you are interested in this subject you might also consider "Witnesses of War" also by Nicholas Stargardt in which he writes about children's experiences of Nazi occupied Europe, including German children's experiences in Germany.
