Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Digital Camera
2 of 2 found this helpful This camera has to be one of the best in its class. I checked all the usual sources before purchase and I am not disappointed. The first thing you notice is the quality and robust feel to the camera. After an initial charge, taking basic shots is simplicity itself and, more importantly the results are impressive. Tinkering with some the options provides even more rewarding shots, a good example being 'Baby' portrate mode which uses a softer flash. Thus result is a flash close up that is not washed out through exposure.
The main flash mode is reasonable powerful for point and shoot but can bleech out detail, a common problem with any direct flash. This is a personal view only I have yet to find a camera of this type with a swivelling flash to allow the option of bounce flash. Maybe one of the manuafacturers will pick up on the benifit of adding a bounce flash option to allow a more professional touch.
Moving back to daylight shots and the camara is a very competant beast with excellent detail and vibrant colours. The 10x is so much more versatile than the usual 3 or 4x with results to match. I have found no colour fringing often associated with such a wide ranging zoom and picture quality is pretty consistant throughout the range, only dropping off at full zoom in poor light which is only to be expected.
Overall there really is not a lot to fault with this camera, it does what it says on the tin and does it well. Being really nit picky I would have liked an optical view finder as these are best in bright light and can save battery power but having said that, even punishing the camera with loads of flash pictures, the battery lasts extemely well.
If you are looking for medium priced, good quality compact camera - Buy one of these
