This item was NOT a direct replacement for the original emblem. The original emblem was a concave shell fitted over a plastic foundation piece that was adhered to the tailgate. To install this new item that plastic piece had to be removed/discarded, the adhesive removed, the tailgate cleaned, and finally the new item installed by sticking it to the cleaned surface.
