Works with a battery grip
I like a battery grip and a solid L-bracket is made for use of the camera without the grip. I don't think this bracket is as rigid as a solid bracket, but I accept some compromise for what it gives me. Having said that, however, I should add that I have not compared it with a solid bracket, so I don't really know if it is any worse. With a heavy camera like the Canon 5D, there is usually a little sagging that takes place after I have positioned it where I want it, so I have to factor this sagging into my use of the bracket. I use this system less for slow shutter speeds than to maintain my composition in order bracket focus points and so forth, so this works well for me. The ability to switch easily from horizontals to verticals without shifting the tripod is very nice indeed. It is not possible to use Canon's (or any) cable release with this bracket. I use a remote release with no problem however and get excellent results, or I just trigger the shutter with my finger if there shutter speed is sufficient. A good solution for my purposes, especially for the cost.

Reasonable ballhead for fairly light DSLR camera especially
I use this with both Olympus DSLRs and a Canon 5DmkII. I am also using a Chinese adjustable L-bracket which allows me to switch from horizontals to verticals and works even with a battery grip. I don't shoot panoramas, so I can't really comment on its usefulness for that, though I can't imagine that it is not good. I wanted a tripod head with a quick release plate that would allow a relatively quick switch from horizontal to vertical without a huge amount of readjustment. There is some readjustment required but MUCH less than swinging a panhead 90 degrees. The main thing is that you don't usually have to move the tripod at all. It is important with this head to level the tripod and there is a built-in bubble level for this which is useful, though it is quite small. Then the head turns freely to the right or left and tilts down and up very smoothly. The grip for the quick release plate allows the camera to slide right or left slightly for minute adjustments too. This unit hardly seems stout enough to handle the 5D with a heavy lens, and I do find that there is some "slop" between the ballhead and the L-bracket I am using. What I mean is that the camera and lens settle or drop a little after I have tightened it down and taken my hand off the lens and camera. My feeling is that this can be attributed more to the L-bracket, which because it is adjustable has some play in it. I am satisfied with the heft and rigidity of this ballhead, but I wish that it had just a bit more mass. But I think this is good quality and good value for the cost and I have had complete satisfaction so far in using it. It ships in a well-designed cardboard box and includes a velvet-like pouch, which I will probably never use, but I appreciate their sense of style. Finally, I enjoy this ballhead. In conjunction with my CF tripod, it is a fine, light system. Any misgivings I may seem to communicate I suspect are related to the adjustable L-bracket I am using with it.

Worth it to own despite some compromises
Buy this lens for its light weight, small size, and useful range. It is pretty good all the way to about 135mm. Racked out fully, I found it hard to focus sharply on small details that I was reaching for. I have used this lens with both the EM1-iii and Pen F with the same result. However, there is no other better option I have found for a small, light kit with this kind of range. Some compromise has to be expected. For casual snapshots and people pictures it is a lens you will likely use a lot, and you are likely to use it simply because you are willing to carry it. The useful hood can be stored on the lens in reverse to save space in the bag or pocket.
