TRP cable actuated hydraulic disc brake calipers are a pretty awesome and easy upgrade from mechanical disc brakes
These hydraulic calipers are a great solution if you want an easier upgrade from mechanical disc brakes to a hydraulic set-up. Although the calipers are slightly heavier than the TRP Spyder / Tektro C550 and mechanical calipers I replaced, they allowed me to utilize my Shimano 105 mechanical road STI levers and existing brake cables (easy peasy mac and cheezy). Also, the cables can be disconnected or the caliper completely removed from the bike without re-bleeding the entire system (very useful feature for servicing the calipers off of the bike or even just upgrading to different levers). The calipers also have a lock on each body to prevent them from actuating. This is actually one advantage over full hydraulic brakes because it will keep the pads separated when the wheels are removed and you accidentally push the brake levers (no more brake blocks required to prevent accidentally stuck pads - 😀). These are definitely worth it, but just make sure that the mount is the correct type for your specific application (post or flat mount).
