It makes a difference.
Didn’t know about swapping the AV for component for the Wii until recently. In Wii settings there is the standard 480i or with this component cable the Wii can output 480p on an HD tv. I watched some comparison videos before buying and I experienced the same improvement from the videos. For example Mario Sunshine looked classic in 480i. But in 480p there is way less blurring and I think the colors pop better. Motion feels better. Backgrounds are clearer. Improves GameCube and Wii game visual quality. GameCube games will ask if you want “screen scan mode” and saying yes allows the 480p to work. It’s not HD like the Wii U (1080p), don’t set the standards too high. But for less than $10 you get a big visual improvement. Didn’t notice the cables are bound close at the ends, meaning there is not a ton of flexibility for separating audio and visual cables. Easy fix, just add some extensions to the audio cables if your speakers are separate from your TV. Good decision to buy.
