Beautiful Camera
I'd been looking at a couple of different Lumix specifically the GX8 and the LX100. Ended up taking the GX85 and I'm super happy I did. I don't have experience with the other two camera so this review is strictly based on the GX85.
First thing I noticed upon taking the camera out of the box was how heavy and substantial it felt. It's about the same size as an Olympus E-PL1 but feels like a G4. Speaking of the size, it's exactly the size I wanted. I love the sharp rectangular look and black on black design. The buttons and dials are expertly placed and thanks to the on board OS it's super easy to navigate.
The screen is beautiful and the images come out looking crystal clear. Coming from the E-PL1 the screen really impresses me, I feel like I'm looking at it on my computer. Again mentioning the screen, the rotation on it is lackluster, I wish it flipped out but I could have went with the GX8 if I really wanted it.
Unfortunately, like everyone says the lack of a external mic input is an issue as we have the 4k video option. The audio isn't awful but I understand the concern. I knew that coming in and if that's something you really want get the GX8 again.
With all that above, there's some obvious missing features, Why did I purchase this instead of another? The 5 axis stabilization is incredible and on 4k it makes this camera an awesome B-roll. I can take a super long telephoto lens and not get any gitter on photo quality or video. Something the GX8 does not have yet. I'm sure what ever comes after the G4 will have this feature but for now the GX85 is exactly what I was looking for.
