Very funny, if a little mindless, entertainment
1 of 1 found this helpful A very nice, mindless, slapstick comedy that provides ninety minutes of laughs if you are in the mood for that sort of thing. Quirky and twisting plotline that's funny without resorting to toilet-humor, explicit sex, or gross-humor. (Yes, there is some off-color-humor and implied-sex, but not a lot. It's definitely still suitable for youngish adolescent viewers.) Not a "deep" movie, but provides lots of cheap laughs. Extras in the movie include a "movie in 5 minutes" summary, that does indeed capture the entire plot... (I told you it wasn't deep.)
Summary:
This is a nice funny movie for people who don't take their movies too seriously. A single dad on a losing streak becomes involved in an insane series of encounters and coincicences that result in him redeeming himself in the eyes of his son. Includes a couple of truly inept bad-guys, and another couple of pretty competent assasins that are having a very, very bad day. Also includes a hallucinogenic toad, illegal weapons dealers, corn chips, goats, Puggy, a garbage disposal, and a small nuclear explosion... Great deadpan performances by Ben Foster and Zooey Deschanel. One of Tim Allen's funniest roles, with a very large and talented supporting cast, all misbehaving in a half-dozen insane subplots. (Rene Russo, Stanley Tucci, Janeane Garofalo, and Patric Warburton to name a few of my favorites.)
Two thumbs up... It's a cheap-laugh comedy that has enough unexpected twists to keep you watching. Most movies in this genre are so dumb that you regret having watched them. This is not the case with Big Trouble, it's clever and interesting, and was never stupid enough to force me to walk out of the room even once.

A very funny, and very underrated movie...
Another movie that my daughter stole from my collection... Refreshing and unexpected comedy that on the surface looks like just another coming of age, teen-angst movie. This movie is especially funny for kids (or adults) who have been involved in theatre performaces in high school or community theatre. This is a mindless comedy, so don't expect much in the way of deep meaning.
Plot Summary:
A very simple base story about a teen breakup and re-falling in love... Includes the obligatory embarassing parents, and adolescent oversexed-dog humor... The best part of the movie is in the deadpan Berke Landers, who is rejected by long-time girlfriend Allison. Over the top performance by Martin Short as the drama teacher/director make the school-play into the real centerpiece for this story.
What is truly impressive about this movie is that I do not for one minute believe that the director understood what makes this movie funny. If you listen to the director's commentary, he thinks the comedy is in the toilet-humor and slapstick gags. The REAL humor is in the deadpan performances by Ben Foster, Colin Hanks, and yes, even by Sisqo... And it's one of the best Kirsten Dunst acting performances too. The school-play provides a show-within-the-show, and is a surreal backdrop for most of the humor. The supporting cast did a great job of keeping things light and funny too.
Overall, two thumbs-up in the mindless entertainment category.

A brilliant Olympus and OM-System flash that can manage bounce.
Tiny flash that needs no internal battery. Easy to carry around, and while it's not very bright, it does a great job as a fill-flash or for scenes just too dark to photograph. It's also a tiny flash that has a tilt and swivel head, so it manages bounce-flash brilliantly. The biggest problem is that they're so small they can get misplaced easily. I've lost two of them...
