Exactly what you think, probably works, but might have some issues.
Dead memory channel mean't that I needed to use an alternate quad channel setup for my system, but otherwise working fine. The one I got is stable at a 3.5Ghz overclock, so other than the dead memory chanels I'm satisfied.
