"Around the World in Eighty Sweaters" by Sue Bradley
1 of 1 found this helpful This book is from the 80's, hence the shape of the garments is dated, of course. But that can easily be fixed, and I bought it for the colorwork, anyway. It's a treasure trove of ethnic motives from all continents, and chockfull of inspiration for the skillful knitter who doesn't slavishly follow patterns but adapts them to her liking, and/or designs her own.

disappointing, but has redeeming features
Two blurb writers, most likely people who know the author personally, found the book "hard to put down". Myself, I sometimes got so frustrated that I threw it into a corner! But the story was interesting enough for me to come back to it. I also enjoyed the descriptions of scenery.
Michael Pollen obviously loves Alaska. He would probably be awesome writing travel books. Or popular science, because he has a knack for making science approachable to laymen. But, judging by this book, he can't write fiction! In the scenes where people intereact his writing is awkward. It's a lot better in the scenery, science, technical parts. His characters are cliches. They have no personality or depth. Overall, he's WAY too long-winded, repetitive, and goes into detail where it's absolutely not necessary, neither for understanding nor storyline. I found this extremely irritating.
Also, "Das is gut. Ich habe zehr hunger." ( page 173) is NOT "pretty good German"! There are FOUR mistakes in these two sentences! LOL

much too tight
I couldn't wear this, it was so tight it gave me a headache. Asian heads are smaller than Central European ones. LOL
Otherwise, it's pretty and well made.
