Great for the price
I am used to my open backed Sennheiser HD595 so the bar is high. The ProDJ100s is a special edition that is silver instead of black and comes with the nice case. It does look better than the Sennheisers and feels more sturdy, yet lighter. The Koss are not as comfortable but it is hard to beat the soft velour pillows on the Sennheisers.
Sound is different. The 595 is about as good as it gets for imaging. They are also very real sounding and neural. The Koss, at first, seemed sort of thin sounding. I ran them with music for several hours. I then gave a listen and noticed that although not as neutral as the Sennheiser, they were a little more detailed. They also were quicker, especially in the bass. They still seemed bright and could have more bass. I later found that the pads and glasses do not mix well. The pads could be softer and a material that was cooler on the ears. I took off my glasses and they suddenly fit better. the bass came around and the trble smoothed out. they were still not as neutral or 3D like the Sennheisers. However, The transient speed was better and there was a bit more resolution. This is really something since the 595 is a fantastic headphone. Imaging is good. It is very focused left to right but does not qute get the depth of the 595.
I wanted to use these on stage for monitoring but they do not quite seal out the noises as I expected. However, this is partly because of my glasses. I am figuring out the pads and getting them to play better with my glasses. Things have improved in that regard.
Overall, they are great sounding. Some have said that the DJ100 is the best sounding headphone under $150. I have not tried all so I can not swear to it. However, for the money, they are truly great. I may not use them on stage, which is a shame. They have the detail and speed that I could really use compared to in ear monitors. Oh well. I will just enjoy them around the house. :-)
