Worth every paragraph
This is quite simply one of the best baseball books I've ever read. Not only is this an uplifting account of this great mans life, the author does an exceptional job of observing Buck at his natural. It disapoints me greatly that I never actually got the chance to meet Mr O'Neil. This is an entertaining journey from cover to cover. And yes, there are parts that will make grown men cry. I will buy this book over and over, and will happily give it as a gift to those who could use some inspiration.

Odd Man Out is a Dianomd Gem
This is an excellent read, and a must for any kid that plays college ball and thinks they have what it takes. McCarthy brings many aspects of his experience together and delivers a first hand account of a short ride in the minors. I think this book goes hand in hand with a recent book by Dirk Hayhurst, who had similar experiences, but did eventually make "the show". Both books are easy reads, very entertaining, and are real.
I have purchased this book for the 4th time now and once I reread it i will again give it as a gift to someone that will benefit from its pages.
