    Dragon 7302: 1/72 M4A3E8(76)W HVSS

    Another excellent Dragon Sherman!
Note: I've recently built several versions of Dragon's 1/72 scale M4 Sherman tanks, and I've been quite impressed by all of them. Much of what I have to say in a review of one of these kits could easily be applied to the others, so my intention here is to write one review that could be used for all of the kits I've done. If anyone reads more than one of my reviews and wonders why I'm saying so much of the same thing in all of them, that's why! Let me begin by saying something I’ve said before in these reviews: I love, love, love Dragon models! Always have, probably always will. Over the last couple of years or so I've especially come to appreciate their series of World War II armor and vehicles in 1/72 scale; I've never yet been disappointed with anything of Dragon's that I've bought, and these Sherman tanks are certainly no exception. The first thing one must remember about these models is that these are not really toys meant to be played with by very young children. They feature many very small, delicate parts that are easily broken off and lost if they aren't handled carefully, but that is also one of the main reasons why these Dragon kits are so great. It really is amazing just how much fine detail this company can put into a tank model that is less than six inches long when fully assembled. It is for that reason also that I'll say that patience is a huge virtue when approaching one of these kits. One definitely can't be in a big hurry to get one of these models finished, but if one is willing to put in the necessary time and painstaking work, it is well worth the effort. Constructing one of these models requires a great deal of patience and care; in some cases the parts are so tiny and delicate that even removing them from the sprue (the plastic trees the parts come attached to) can damage or even break them if one isn't careful. Certainly I've had to learn the hard way how true this is, but I can also tell you that it isn't impossible, it just requires a light touch. However, my saying these things should in no way dissuade anyone from trying their hand at one of these excellent kits if they are so inclined. Based on my own experience with these kits, the one trouble spot I ran into was with the tracks. These come in the form of flexible plastic tracks; my personal preference is for hard plastic tracks with individual links, but having said that, I have never had a bad experience with Dragon's flexible band tracks, which are not difficult to work with and will take super glue easily. The real trouble I encountered with the tracks was that on test-fitting, they came up just a little bit too short, but I soon found that they can be stretched to the necessary length, but again one must be careful doing this—these tracks will break if stretched too far or too briskly, and if they do break, that can be a real problem. All in all, these Dragon M4 Shermans are incredibly good little models of one of the most famous tanks in history, and anyone who enjoys building small-scale WWII armor should give these little guys a real serious look.

Great little model of a very historic vehicle
I have been a big fan of Dragon models since I was a very young child. I've never yet bought a Dragon product that I've been disappointed with, and this kit was no exception. Dragon has long had a reputation for producing very good quality kits with a high degree of detail, and it is a reputation well-deserved. What's even more amazing is that Dragon has been able to translate this level of minute detail even to their 1/72 scale vehicle models, which at that scale are quite small. This T-34, for instance, is less than six inches long from the tip of the gun barrel to the back of the tank, but it is incredible how fine the detail on this kit is. With regard to durability, I would have to say no--these kits are loaded with many very small parts like handrails that wouldn't stand up well to being roughly handled, but it must be remembered that these models are not toys meant to be played with by very young children, so they're not designed with that in mind. These small parts really are part of what makes Dragon models so great, though; they really do go a long way toward creating a truly realistic appearance to these kits, but they can be a bit fiddly to work with, so some degree of patience will be needed to work with this kit or other Dragon models like it. If there is one shortfall to these kits, it is the fact that they typically come with single-piece plastic band type tracks. Personally, I prefer hard plastic link-and-length tracks, but in the case of Dragon armor models this is a very small drawback; their tracks are made of a type of plastic that is very easy to work with and will easily bond with super glue. So the fact that Dragon puts plastic band tracks in their 1/72 tank models isn't such a problem, especially in light of the fact that years ago most tank models in this scale used to come only with simply DREADFUL vinyl tracks that could not be glued even with super glue! In any case, the excellent quality and detail of Dragon models more than makes up for this one (relatively minor) drawback. So, in concluding, this is another great model from Dragon, a company that continues to prove its worth, and this is a kit definitely worth considering if you're a fan of World War II vehicle models, 1/72 scale tank models, Soviet vehicle models, or all of the above!
EMHAR #7202 1/72 ARMY MEN TOY SOLDIERS - BRITISH WWI ARTILLARY W 18 PDR GUN

Great little model of a Great War gun
This is definitely a must for any modelers interested in World War I subjects, artillery guns, or both. I've had the pleasure of working with Emhar products before, and I've never yet been disappointed with their stuff. At 1/72 scale, the two guns that come with this set are not very big, but they are surprisingly well detailed for their small size. As for durability, I would have to say they're not only because they do have a few fiddly delicate parts that really wouldn't take well to being roughly handled, but then these aren't toys meant to be played with by very young children. As I mentioned earlier, the detail on these guns is surprisingly good considering their small size, but some concessions were made by Emhar for the sake of easy manufacture. There are a few parts on the real gun that are absent here, but unless you're a real stickler for accuracy (like me), that won't really be a serious problem. Personally, I wanted to make my 18 pounders look as much like the real thing as I could get them to, so I added a few scratch-built bits to my guns. For anyone else inclined to do the same, it isn't difficult to do this, you just have to be willing to do the necessary Google image searches and be willing to put a little extra time and effort into these guns. So, all in all, this is a great product, and for anyone interested in models related to the WWI period, this is well worth giving consideration.
