If your reel seat is too big

I had just purchased a Fenwick HMG inshore 8 ft and they put a bigger size reel seat on just the two 8 ft models. It wouldn't tighten up on anything but a 8k size reel and I wanted to use a 5k. Now I know that these things are made to protect your reel's foot from scratches but I used them to build up the size of the foot. They worked perfectly for what I intended.
