Useful art tools
I saw these being used for loose underpainting by a reputable artist. They are cheap and reusable.

Good quality soft pastels in pencil format
This is the set of 48 pastel pencils providing a good range of colours. They blend quite well and you can get better coverage with a blending stump. I did find some scratchy hard areas though. They were were packed in a cardboard box rather than a tin and the interior plastic did not protect them so many arrived with the point broken. When I tried to sharpen them, they were too big for my standard sharpener. Although pencils are meant for finer detail than sticks, they blunted quickly so I will use them for blending larger areas.

Found a different use
I saw this and knew it would be just right for storing paintings. Perfect, I bought two
