    Use a BT136 TRIAC in a TO-220 package instead of a MAC97A6
I bought two CE units but had trouble with the drawing on the case and its use of symbols from another world. I had some time, and an extra lamp, that I had repaired before, so before using the CE touch control unit, I pulled the cover off and found that the TRIAC used was a MAC97A6 which has a TO-92 plastic case. Good grief! TO-92 devices can not handle any power normally and there was no radiator on it. The TRIAC is used to phase modulate (switch) the power to the bulb. I down loaded the data sheet on the MAC97A6 and found that it has an It rms max current rating of 0.6 Amps. It a 400 V device but the case size provides no means for getting heat out of the part. There are holes in the circuit board right next to the MAC97 for an alternate (but not used) for a BT136 TRIAC which has a TO-220 case and has an IT rms max current rating of 4.0 Amps. There is no heat sink provided for the TO-92 case or the TO-220 but the TO-220 case is massive in comparison to the TO-92 with no heat sink. The CE alleges a 150 Watt rated power but the fine print says that you can not use a bulb rated at over 60 watts.. It would probably be reliable with a 25 watt bulb. Can not say. CE should use the larger TRIAC like the BT136 with the TO-220 case and a 4 amp rating to get some design margin in unit. Those holes in the board and the legend for the 4 Amp part shows that they knew there was a better way. I will try the CE unit in a metal lamp, and use a 60 watt bulb, but it looks like CE really went on the Cheap, I also noted that the control IC is an unmarked component on a small flat circuit board mounted on it edge! Earlier metal touch control lamps used an 8 pin IC called a TT6061A controller which is still available. The instructions for connecting up the CE version of a controller are on the top of the case. The embossed sketch is incomprehensible as a schematic. Three branches are shown connected to a circle with an X in it, a symbol I have never seen on a schematic. However, that symbol may have had a place in analog control theory or in some liberal arts class. I will have to do a little extra research to make up for the incompetent that did that sketch on the top of the case. If it works with small bulb, I think I will try to find an equivalent for the BT136 TRIAC in a TO-220 and switch out that piss ant TO-92 TRIAC. I should have asked more questions before trying to take the lowest price, I found that Lamps Plus, Home Depot, and Wallmart had 150 watt units all at or around or under 10 bucks. I had bought from Home Depot some time ago had a TO-220 4 Amp TRIAC in it and it is still in service. If the CE unit works with a 40 Watt or 60 watt lamp, all will be good until the bulb has to be changed and some unknowing person puts a 75 watt bulb in it and kablooie.. No sign on the metal lamp? Perhaps CE could package a warning label for application to the lamps repaired about limiting the wattage on the repaired lamp. .

The LM971 is not a match for a blue max opener and it does not have 12 switches.
The advertisement was misleading .. I had been expecting an opener with 12 switches but the LM971 is comparable to the self learning Genie types .. no use with older fixed switch types that do not have a learn feature on the opener My search started with a search for a Blue Max opener and the devices I received did not match up without the 12 switch arrangement as found in older Blue Max openers.
