Got it quickly, tossed out old power supply, inserted this one (about 10 minutes), fired up computer, and . . . it works!

Well worth it. Bought for about $40 on eBay.
This 1989 six-episode treatment of Dickens' masterpiece is the best I have watched on film/dvd— and I have viewed almost all of them while teaching the novel over 30 years. Picture quality was more than adequate; the selection of scenes showed a clear understanding of Dickens' characters and main themes. The main drawback was the episodes covering Pip's pre-apprentice years: the young actor stiffly quoted his lines, and the young Estella, played by the same actress throughout the entire series, was simply too mature (and dwarfed him to boot).
The German language titles of the episodes were eaily manageable, BTW, these were not Region 2 PAL-encoded disks. They played fine on my Region 1 player.
