Fantastic Game, Rules Aren't Clear Sometimes
My middle son and I LOVE this game. It's not an epic space game like Twilight Imperium, as I understand it. But it's a lot of fun. It seems slow at first, but by round 6 or so, things get serious. Talk about a tense couple of final rounds!
Quality of the parts is good. There is a Ship Pack you can purchase separately that gives you unique ship designs for each race, but to be honest they really aren't necessary. If you want to expand the game, your money is better spent on the Rise of the Ancients expansion.
Since there are so many parts, it's important to properly organize the pieces in the provided Ziploc bags to make setup easier.
Also, there are a few rules we didn't get quite right the first couple of play-throughs. The rulebook could use some fine-tuning to highlight some important details. Specifically, we missed the point that missiles can only be fired once at the start of a battle. But a friend who is a hard-core board gamer helped clarify several things.
I would recommend playing this with at least one experienced player, if you can. You kind of need a rules lawyer until everyone gets the hang of things.
A++ game. This one has earned a permanent spot on my game shelf.
