Matter of taste

The novel has moments of stark, beautiful and sensitive descriptions, but I found the narrative rather wooden and turgid and had difficulty identifying with the central characters. Matter of taste. The novel seems to be making a great comeback and a number of critics praise it very highly.

A nice edition of an important work by the Big D. One wishes, however, that he had edited or added to the material removed by the censor. The intro. by the translator while at times unnecessarily complex, is very helpful.
