Excellent recorder for long conversations
I work on a community newspaper and we use these and the earlier ICDSX57 (identical except 256 MB) for recording the meetings we cover.
The unit is very portable. The recording quality is excellent even in rooms with poor acoustics. I keep mine set to the highest quality setting and it will still record about 9 hours of conversation.
Note that if you put in rechargeable batteries, they'll be recharged through the USB connection. That's very handy. I keep the recorder plugged into the USB connection until I'm ready to go cover something and that way I always have fully-charged batteries.
When you connect the recorder to the USB connection on your PC, it shows up as a flash drive and you can move the recording files to your hard drive without needing any other software.
The Sony software (available for download on their web site) has good options for playback and selecting the setting on the recorder. Using it, you can quickly convert Sony's proprietary MSV (memory stick voice) format to MP3 format that works with lots of players. Note that the resulting MP3s are typically about twice the size of the equivalent MSV file.
If you need to record long conversations, this and the ICDSX57 are excellent choices.

OK with some gotchas
1 of 1 found this helpful The box says the card works on Windows Vista; however, I couldn't find the drivers for Vista on the included CD. Fortunately, they can be found on the Nvidia Geforce website under drivers/results/102378 and drivers/results/10239.
Those who are hoping to plug an adapter into the DVI port and connect a VGA cable will be disappointed. That port lacks the C1-C4 pins that carry the analog signal needed for VGA. I also had some problems with instability in the signal on the VGA port when I connected that to a 15" flat panel TV. Using the HDMI port instead solved the problem.
The good news is that the card is inexpensive and capable of driving three monitors and includes the brackets needed to do that in a half-height computer case; however, the second bracket used to mount the VGA port will occupy an additional card slot.
All three monitors I am using with the card are 1024 x 768 so I can't comment on how well the card handles high resolution.

Dell U2711 LCD monitor: An excellent choice
1 of 1 found this helpful Overall, this is an excellent monitor for those wanting a high-resolution (2560x1440) monitor for graphics design, publishing, and general business applications.
PROS: Performance for the price, Resolution, Sharpness, Brightness, Color controls, Height and angle adjustments, Variety of inputs (DVI-D, VGA, component video, HDMI, etc.)
CONS: For 2560x1440 resolution, you must have a graphics card with DVI DUAL LINK capability, power-on takes about 7 seconds (much slower than my prior dual 17" Dell LCDs).
I have been very pleased using this for the past couple weeks for ad design, newspaper layout, editing large spreadsheets, etc.
Compared to the typical $1200+ current price for 2560x1600 LCDs from HP and others, the current eBay price around $900 for this Dell monitor is reasonable.
The main issue I encountered was that the graphics card in my 2007 Dell XPS410, a 256 Mbyte ATI Radeon X1300 PRO that supported dual 17" LCDs just fine, does not support DVI DUAL-LINK operation even if you install the latest drivers posted on the AMD ATI web site. As a result, the monitor wouldn't operate at 2560x1440. Using the VGA connector, the maximum resolution is 2048x1152.
I replaced my ATI card with a PNY Nvidia GeForce GT 220 1 Gbyte and its been smooth sailing ever since.
I haven't used it for games or watching HDMI video but based on my experiences so far, you won't go wrong with this monitor.
