Excellent Commentary

I have used Haldane's commentary on Romans for studies in four different churches. This commentary is well-balanced, in that it not only gives good technical information, it is down-to-earth and practical enough to be of use for Sunday School work. Some commentaries are limited by being overwhelming - this is not one of them. Some are limited in that they are shallow and simply repeat what has been written in dozens of other contemporary commentaries. This avoids that as well, and occasionally goes in depth with certain theological concepts the Apostle Paul frequently discusses. If you are a serious Bible-student and looking for a helpful commentary for everyday use, you can't go wrong with this one.

All Time Favorite - "It's a Wonderful Life" for Feb.

I remember the first time I watched this movie - one of those that makes you laugh and cry at the same time. Bill Murray does a great job in his part as the Pittsburgh weatherman. The opening scenes of the movie were neat to watch, as we have driven through the streets of Pittsburgh many times and live not far from Punxsutawney. I got tired of renting the thing every February so I bought one off Ebay, in great shape at a good price. The way the day plays out over and over, and the way Murray deals with it, makes the movie interesting to watch. The supporting cast is also great. A movie like this comes around only once every ten years or so.

A Little Patriotism Goes a Long Way

I remembered this movie when I was a kid back in the 60's, and it brought back memories to a time when patriotism was the norm. This is not a movie to get to learn the details behind the War for Independence, but it is a nice one to see the "Spirit of '76". More of this is needed for the present generation, and if we can't get it in a modern format (without "America is bad" propoganda), this will do. For younger kids it helps them to see the American spirit of liberty and independence that is so lacking in today's culture of dependence on government handouts.
