Nearly perfect title, though probably not for everyone.
While this game is a 2D pixelated throwback, the gameplay is some of the cleanest I have personally played in the Metroidvania genre. The story is compelling as well told in the style of a FromSoft title allowing those who are uninterested in the story to spend more time enjoying the crisp and reactive platforming and combat while leaving room for those interested to hunt for the story in item descriptions and environmental storytelling.
While I would suggest this game for anyone who is a fan of the Metroidvania or Soulsborne genres, the game is incredibly visceral and provocative. Depictions of violence and body horror abound from the sparse cutscenes which exist to the plethora of bosses and finishers used to defeat normal enemies. The religion in the game seems to be a critique of Christianity. If these subject matters are unappealing, the game gives little recompense and is unabashed in regards to what it is.
