Bozo Dog Doo Dah Band- Reunion
2 of 2 found this helpful You may not have heard of The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band but I'm sure you would have heard them their biggest hit (and only one) was 'I'm an Urban Spaceman'.
The Bonzos were born from a group at art college in the 60s, playing re-vamped 20's jazz numbers in pubs around London. They were the first 'pop group' to have a regular slot on a weekly tv show and dissappeared as quickly as they arrived, but left a legacy throughout comedy in the latter half of the 20th century.
I caught the end of this show on TV and was blown away. I wanted to see the whole thing so had to Buy the DVD, and it is superb. The 'Bonzos' are an eclectic mix of very talented musicians that can still, after 40 years entertain a new audience. The writing by the late Vivian Stanshall inspired the Pythons and Goodies, (in fact various members of both were members of 'Do Not Adjust Your Set', tv show which The Bonzos were first seen). Todays comedians perform Stanshalls part with the Bonzos at this live recording, Phil Jupitus actually has a superb voice, Ade Edmondson impecable timing and Stephen Fry bringing a touch of class to the whole thing. (Paul Merton seemed to play a more supporting role.
What is really missing is some background to this often heard, little known band, a second disc with a documentary would have been good.
