Don't get confused.
No, your smartphone does not replace the need to have a pocket voice recorder. I have purchased many of these. Some I label, "office", "car", "pocket."

Great, quiet clock.
The only reason I do not recommend this is because I was looking for a clock for the bedroom that would be both quiet, this clock is, and without an illuminating light. The light, at night, is a touch too bright. I will look for a clock that just has illuminated hands.
