Moen L82691 Adler Shower Only Valve
The reduced flow Moen showerhead looks really nice but the flow rate is too low and it has very limited side-to-side and up/down movement so I removed it and put one on that’s identical to what was there for over 40 years. I had a spare that I used when I was on the road and didn’t like the shower head where I was staying. It’s also a reduced flow head but it had a washer in it hat you could remove to have full flow and it has a lot more side-to-side and up/down movement.
The valve itself is very nice, just rotate it counterclockwise to the desired temperature and the cartridge is very easy to replace, no small springs or rubber seals in it but it does cost more to replace than the ones with o-rings that can be replaced or the ones with springs and rubber seals.
The valve is easy to install and can be used with iron pipe fittings or sweat directly to copper pipe. PVC and PEX connections can be made with the appropriate adapters. For my installation, I sweat 1/2" copper pipe to the hot and cold inlets and to the outlet for the showerhead.
The valve comes complete with the cartridge, showerhead, showerhead tube and a chrome cover for where the showerhead tube exits the wall. There is an "L" shaped handle and a plastic round handle that can be used on the valve. All the screws necessary for installation are included.
The instructions are complete and easy to follow, they are also available on Moen's web site so you can read them before making a purchase to make sure it's what you want and a project that you can handle.
In my opinion, Moen did a very good job with this shower only valve, I bought one of the discontinued models, the current model has an EP on the end of the model number.
This Moen replaced a shower valve that I installed over 40 years ago that parts are no longer available to repair it.
