Study if you want to understand music theory
This is a clear presentation of music theory concepts - verbiage, method of presenting and organization, thoroughness, appropriate study exercises/application, book layout of any of the textbooks, review material, and concise, useful appendices. Ottman was an experienced music theory teacher and his books represent his real-life interaction with students. There are newer music theory textbooks. There is no more understandable presentation of this material available.

The Music Tree Time to Begin is time-proven and excellent
No piano method is superior to the scope of The Music Tree, Frances Clark and Louise Goss. If a teacher wants to teach musicianship and a proper use of the piano playing body apparatus, for long-term good, this is the way to begin. The book engages even small children, but more importantly what is asked of the elementary child age is appropriate physically and in visual cues. I bought this volume to be used by a 5 year old and have total confidence that this child will learn with understanding and physical and emotional comfort in the demands made and in the understanding and presentation of concepts.
